When you take on a role in Solihull Metropolitan Borough Council (SMBC), you’re not just starting a new chapter in your career, you’re treating yourself to a work/life balance that’s second to none.
Enjoying a great location in the heart of the country, with easy transport links to major UK and European cities, plus an affordable standard of living and fantastic cultural and social offerings, the lifestyle offered by this charming area is a tempting prospect. But more than that, SMBC is committed to ensuring their staff enjoy an exceptional level of job satisfaction, from training and development opportunities to full support and guidance – and that’s why we need you.
Working in close collaboration with the HR team, you will take a key role in ensuring we have the right people in the right jobs, with the right set of skills to really make an impact in their role. And within this particular team – the Children’s & Skills Directorate – that work has never been more important. Designing and leading the organisational and workforce development activity, you will identify any areas that need attention, implement learning initiatives with third-party suppliers and evaluate the success of these programmes. Employee engagement, behaviour and cultural transformation and working with staff to ensure they flourish during periods of change will also fall into your remit, and you will see to it that each team is well equipped to meet their strategic objectives – making the most of resources available to you and thereby producing maximum value to the customer.
As you will be inspiring an environment of continuous improvement, your fantastic verbal and written communication skills will be matched by a collaborative team-playing attitude. Working with team leaders to help them reshape their services to meet the needs of the customer, you will therefore be creative when coming up with the relevant strategies, interventions and mechanisms. As such, you will have membership of a professional body that shapes skills, knowledge and competence in people and you will have experience of successfully delivering organisational development strategies in a multi-function setting. Comfortable working with staff at all levels, your natural leadership, negotiation and persuasion skills will be crucial when assessing the needs of the workforce.
This is an involving role with many layers, so you will need to have the ability to juggle a complex workload while maintaining a cool façade. If that’s a challenge that you’d like to take on, and you’re excited about the prospect of inviting positive change to this dynamic environment, then we’d like to hear from you.
