The Met’s job and mission, is clear: Keeping London safe for everyone. For most of our people that’s one of the reasons why they joined the Met in the first place.  Each officer and member of police staff contributes to making London the safest global city, delivering a public service Londoners can be proud of, and making sure our capital remains open and welcoming to everyone.

The Met is embarking on an exciting new strategy called Met Direction.  As an organisation the Met wants to develop its internal capabilities.  It wants to ensure that its people are well led, well-equipped, and well supported, championing difference and diversity of thought to create an environment where everyone thrives.   We can only deliver this strategy and our mission through the quality and engagement of our people.

The Metropolitan Police Service is the UK's largest police service with 25% of the total police budget for England and Wales. It is the territorial police force responsible for law enforcement in Greater London and the coordination of significant national responsibilities such as Counter Terrorism. With more than 43,000 full-time officers and staff, the organisation is divided into four business units – Frontline Policing, Met Operations, Specialist Operations and Professionalism.  It is supported by Corporate Services such as HR, Transformation, Commercial and Finance, Legal, Media and Communications, Strategy & Governance and Digital Policing.

The Met demands best in class resourcing, talent and inclusion strategies.  It is one of the biggest employers in a challenging London employment market who has an award winning track record of innovation in the way it recruits and develops people.  Annually the Met is recruiting over 5400 new police officers and police staff across a range of professions and specialisms.  Internally it runs promotion and talent schemes for over 800 new leadership roles per annum. And the Met is working hard at ensuring it attracts and retains more diversity – this means more women and more officers & staff from BAME backgrounds.

The Head of Resourcing, Talent & Inclusion will be accountable for continuing the work to shape and deliver the Met’s next generation of people strategies through the leadership of three high performing centres of expertise. This is an exciting opportunity to play a key role in the strategic HR leadership team of the Met, continuing the truly ground breaking work on resourcing, talent and inclusion.

The successful candidate will bring expertise in resourcing, talent and inclusion strategies.  They will have a credible track record of innovation and delivering such strategies in a complex organisation.  Experience of Policing and the London market is not essential but great strategic thinking, commercial acumen and a collaborative leadership style will be.   The ability to be successful at a senior level in an organisation of comparable scale and pace will be essential. Finally, a genuine passion for the Met’s diversity and inclusion strategy will be pivotal: the Met welcomes interest from a broad range of sectors.
