Greater Manchester Police is one of the largest police forces in the UK and is responsible for keeping its diverse population of almost 3 million safe, spread over more than 1,200 sq. km. Manchester in particular has been billed as the most diverse city in Europe with its population speaking at least 200 different languages, leading to the city being named as Britain’s “City of languages”.

GMP are committed to ensure that the make-up of our workforce is reflective of the communities we serve and we recognise that having a diverse workforce makes us more approachable and relevant to the public.

Human Resources Branch within GMP aim to deliver a professional and dynamic service to our customers, against the back drop of major strategic change. With the focus being to foster a collaborative approach to people management, ensuring that we get the best from our workforce. We continue to support our customers across the full range of HR functions both strategic and services and support central change programmes.

As part of a team, the HR Caseworker will provide a comprehensive, customer focused HR Advisory service on a full range of human resources issues. You will have an individual caseload, and be expected to support line managers who are responsible for managing their resources in the most effective way. You will be responsible for ensuring consistency and appropriate application of agreed policies and processes, but also having the capability to provide pragmatic advice in an ever changing environment.

We are seeking someone with HR generalist experience, particularly in employment relations, dealing with grievances, attendance management and change. You will have a strong customer focus, and have positively developed supportive relations, providing advice and guidance with confidence. Experience of report writing and of using computerised HR systems including utilising spreadsheets and databases is also key, in order to produce statistics and identifying trends.

This post is based at the GMP Force Headquarters in Newton Heath, however you will be expected to travel to other locations across the Force.

Greater Manchester Police have been informed of potential personal tax implications for members of the 1987 Police Pension Scheme, who retire and take a pension between the ages of 50 and 54 inclusive and then take up employment as a Police Staff member. Members of the police pension scheme whose age is between 50 and 54 who are re-employed as a Police Staff member have to meet certain conditions to keep their PPA and to protect against personal tax liability charges on any payments paid before the age of 55. One of those conditions is that a break of at least 1 month is required where the re-employment is ‘materially different’. However, if the role is not deemed to be ‘materially different’ then a 6 month break is required.
