Kath Thomas, senior HR business partner at Gwent Police, tells us about her role and the opportunity they’re recruiting for

Tell me about Gwent Police and the work you do 

I manage a team of people and am professional lead on a number of portfolios which includes embedding new standards, legislation and regulations into HR and equality procedures and practices within Gwent Police. 

What is involved in the typical role of a senior HR business partner?  

There are two senior HR business posts at Gwent Police. One will manage the team of HR business partners and the other will manage the resourcing team which includes all recruitment activities, job evaluation and ad-hoc project work, and the team undertaking HR transactional processes. The senior HR business partner is the professional lead in their area.

What is the best bit about your day? 

The variety and the fact that there is never a dull moment!

And what is the biggest challenge?  

The pace of change affecting the police service as a whole but that’s one of the things that makes it interesting.
