Published on: 24 Nov 2014

Looking for a new role but don’t know where to start or who to turn to? We caught up with Angela Richmond, co-founder and director of Adam’s Human Resources (HR) division, who worked in the industry for ten years prior to her career in recruitment consultancy. That makes her the perfect person to tell us not only what makes Adam special but also what professionals should be doing to take the next step in their career.

Tell us about Adam.

Founded in 2006, Adam is an HR, digital and marketing recruitment consultancy firm, based in both Manchester and London. The firm recruits nationally, covering all disciplines of human resources as well as both permanent and interim positions.

What makes Adam different to other recruitment agencies?

In the specialist team, we are ex-HR professionals and we all started our careers within large companies. This expertise enables us to source exceptional HR talent for our clients. Our team has worked in the UK recruitment market for over 20 years and has an excellent network of candidates.

What can HR professionals expect when using Adam to find a new job?

We offer an unrivalled insight into the HR market. We have a robust selection process and offer candidates the opportunity of introductions to great employers with highly respected teams and strong career development potential.

What kind of vacancies are you seeing at the moment?

The contract market is buoyant nationally, and there is strong demand for highly commercial hr business partners across all sectors. There is also growth and opportunity in the not-for-profit and social care sectors.

What skills are particularly in demand for HR professionals at present?

Strong commerciality, change management, organisational development, stakeholder management and employee engagement stand out particularly.

Are there any areas of the market that are particularly competitive at the moment?

Senior business partner and strategic lead roles are currently highly sought after. To succeed, exceptional candidates must be able to demonstrate how their achievements have a positive impact on businesses, showing that they can deliver return on investment and quantifiable results.

What advice would you give to a professional who is looking to build their career quickly?

You should seek out inspirational HR leaders and build expertise in managing the stakeholder relationship.  You should also seek out opportunities to get involved in a broad range of projects, demonstrating energy, passion and vigour- but, importantly, making sure those achievements are recognised! Finally, it’s important that you manage your own development closely, asking for constructive feedback and seeking out development opportunities regularly.
