A leading NHS body based in Central London.


Provide an expert employee relations advisory service to senior managers and the HR Team, including strategic and specialist advice that provides business-focused solutions to clients regarding employment issues with potential legal implications.

* Work closely with the HR team to provide support on employment and issues as required

* Regularly liaise with the HR Business Partners to ensure they are informed of any contentious cases relevant to their specific business areas

* Support the Senior ER Manager in liaising with General Counsel on all matters of medium to significant legal risk

* Act as a subject matter expert on content for all employee relations issues and related letters, documents and interventions

* Summarise information for the Director of HR and update the HR team and other areas of the business accordingly

* Conducts/oversees investigations and the resolution of employee relations issues.

* Prepare for and manage cases for tribunal claims conveying complex and sensitive information in a succinct manner.

* Represent NHS Improvement at Employment Tribunal presenting cases and responding to questions as required,

* Prioritise cases based on severity and ageing

Project and change initiatives

* Lead on the ongoing design, development and implementation of all ER policies and processes in line with the latest employment legislation ensuring policies are up date

* Understand and promote areas concerning equality and inclusion and the impact of this on the organisation

* Supports training of employees and managers in various employee relations topics, including, discrimination, sexual harassment, disciplinary procedures, etc.

Team contribution

* Contribute to the overall development of the HR function, sharing knowledge appropriately through the wider HR community

* Act as technical ER coach across a number of ER topics for colleagues in the wider HR community

* Maintains current knowledge of relevant employee relations and compliance laws, procedures, and practices.

* Demonstrate NHS Improvement's competencies relevant to the role level and be a role model for NHS Improvement's values


* Qualified to practise as a solicitor or barrister in England and Wales (or equivalent jurisdiction)


Significant experience in an ER Manager role providing advice to senior managers on employment relations /employment law issues

* Knowledge and understanding of ER best practice

* Experienced in adopting a risk-based analysis of employment issues, the identified possible risks, the likelihood of these risks materialising and ways to eliminate or mitigate the risks

* Experience of producing sound legal research around HR policy and process
