Head of HR - International

Poundland are currently looking for a Head of HR - International based from our head office in Willenhall, West Midlands (with international travel), paying up to £90,000.

Poundland has built a network of almost 900 stores in the UK and the Republic of Ireland.  In September 2016, Poundland became part of the Steinhoff International family, an integrated manufacturer and retailer with operations in Europe, Australasia, Africa and the United States.  With this move has come positive change and international expansion, with the Dealz brand operating in France and Spain and store openings planned in Poland in 2018.

The business’ vision is to grow profitably and significantly by 2020. The executive team recognises that HR has already, and will continue to play, a significant part in evolving their structure and culture as part of this vision and are looking for a new Head of HR – International to support the International Directors (Western and Eastern Europe). 

We are a fast-paced, hardworking retail business going through significant change. The new Head of HR is a brand new role, so there is scope to influence, design and set up the HR support required for our international journey.  Partnering with the executive team, and the HR Leadership team, the successful candidate will understand the strategic business requirements and organisational design, aligning it with business needs and the global HR strategy.

Working closely with the executive team they will collaborate on creating and driving a high-performance environment to enable delivery of the long term corporate strategy.   They will identify the talent of the future and drive succession planning across key business divisions. 

The successful candidate will have responsibility for recruiting for and managing a high performing HR team.

Technical and operational HR experience will be a given. We’re looking for a bright, confident, down to earth, commercial, collaborative team player who will drive the organisation’s strategic people agenda whilst ensuring good operational HR continues. An overriding sense of commerciality and focus on delivery is key.

 “Rolling up one’s sleeves” will also be important and we will be looking for candidates to demonstrate they can work at pace in a fast moving business.

The successful candidate is likely to have experience of working in a fast-paced retail environment.  International experience is essential, and ideally they will be fluent in Polish, French, or Spanish, in addition to English.

Who will this role suit?

You may be CIPD qualified, or you might have significant commercial experience, having learnt on the job.  You will need knowledge of employment legislation across multiple territories.  You have had experience of change management, and have strong organisation design and process mapping skills.  You have been a Line Manager, and have partnered with Board Directors and other stakeholders, and be able to influence wider business decisions. Administration of expatriate and internal secondments will be high on the agenda, so you will have experience in this area.
