At Fareham Borough Council, we pride ourselves on our customer service which is at the heart of everything we do and we recognise that every single one of our 450 employees makes a difference. Our teams are based across several sites including the Civic Offices, Depot, Ferneham Hall and Sheltered Housing schemes.

This is a great opportunity for an experienced HR Professional to join a forward-thinking Council. You’ll manage operational issues and support the Head of HR on strategic issues across the Council. As a key contact within HR you’ll ensure that we deliver to the Council’s strategies providing business focused solutions.

You’ll give professional advice and support, influencing managers on the full range of HR matters including: performance management; organisational design and development; change management; employee relations and resourcing.

You’ll need excellent judgment and communication, to be assertive and empathetic when needed and have strong influencing skills. Remaining calm and confident in negative situations you will need to juggle a variety of cases. You’ll be proactive and energetic and someone who gets things done.

You won’t be satisfied maintaining the status quo; if you like to ‘find a way’ and look for new, simpler and better ways of doing things you will be welcomed in this role.

Fareham HR are always fair, and it is important that you are able to make tough decisions and deliver difficult messages whilst maintaining the dignity of employees no matter what the situation. Our customers tell us that they appreciate our focus on finding solutions but also that at times we use our strengths and skills to do things for them rather than just provide advice. This could be assessing the suitability of candidates and setting up interviews through to having difficult conversations for them. We focus on building relationships with our managers so they respect us when we need to say ‘no’. And they really appreciate us for all that we do!

Yes, we ask a lot of our HR team. We aim to attract, develop and retain the very best people to carry out the work required. In return, you would be joining a small and happy team and a well managed Council. We offer a great pension scheme, authorised parking, childcare vouchers, flexible working and a car lease scheme to name a few of the benefits of working for us. We take pride in receiving feedback from others who say we are a ‘friendly and professional organisation’
