Senior HR opportunities (Head of People Services / Head of Organisational Development)
A fascinating sector. A unique regulator.
Be at the heart of both in a key HR role.
Fast-paced, unique and often in the public eye, the Office for Nuclear Regulation (ONR) is committed to shaping the future of regulation in the UK nuclear industry. As our organisation evolves to support a growing sector, you’ll be joining us at an exciting point in our development. Whether you’re an expert in resourcing or Organisational Development (OD), this is a rare opportunity to deliver strategies and support our team, while driving forward the HR agenda.
Head of People Services
This role will place you at the heart of HR, where you’ll be in charge of a 12-strong team. Together, you’ll provide crucial day-to-day services and help make HR initiatives happen. Resourcing is a big part of the remit, and you’ll be managing internal and external recruitment. This involves developing pipelines of talent that will help to combat skills shortages. At the same time, you’ll be leading complex HR casework and overseeing partnerships with third party suppliers. Through smart strategic oversight, you’ll see that quality services are delivered to ONR staff
With responsibility for a newly amalgamated Personnel Security Vetting service too, you’ll be vital to the HR management team and a source of expert guidance.
Head of Organisational Development (OD)
As ONR adapts to a fast-evolving sector, you’ll lead vital change projects and set the direction of OD activities. Your initiatives will shape our culture and boost staff engagement, performance and motivation, all while supporting our People strategy and regulatory activities. The key is to work collaboratively across ONR, and to inspire a small team to deliver vital plans. With expert subject knowledge covering OD processes, you’ll be equipped to lead complex HR casework, represent HR and provide sound advice.
Both roles call for a CIPD-qualified professional with senior-level experience. You’ll be highly skilled in your respective field and keen to make an impact. However, success demands much more than technical HR knowledge: you’ll also need exceptional leadership skills and a gift for communication. It’s vital that you can work across organisational boundaries and explain complex issues, both in person and on paper. What’s more, we’ll expect you to bring a proven track record of building relationships and networks. If you have the determination to drive through change at pace (plus public sector experience), we can offer a pivotal role within ONR HR management.
As part of the ONR, you’ll enjoy a generous rewards package and opportunities to progress. In addition to a possible relocation package, we offer a competitive salary of £62,753 - £71,653. Furthermore, you’ll be eligible for an extremely generous Civil Service Pension scheme and given five weeks’ annual leave, with an extra day for every year worked (up to a maximum of six weeks).
ONR is a Public Corporation with a Mission to ensure the highest standards of safety and security across all of the UK’s licensed nuclear sites. Our staff are drawn from a wider range of professional backgrounds in order to run a stand-alone business with specialist inspectors to deliver our core business including civil engineering, radiological protection, human factors, chemical engineering, mechanical engineering and nuclear physics. And together they’re involved in everything from assessing safety cases, inspecting nuclear sites, communicating our decisions, training new recruits and representing the UK and ONR within the wider International nuclear community.
