Secure the future capabilities of our highly-skilled team.

With a global client-base, international partners and a proud British heritage, the United Kingdom Hydrographic Office (UKHO) is a truly multicultural organisation. World-renowned for providing meticulous marine geospatial information, our clients include defence navies, scientists, researchers, the fishing industries and commercial shipping – so our work affects everything from the safety of the nation’s borders to energy supplies. While we are a civil service organisation, we employ a commercially-minded approach to business – making for a particularly progressive working environment in which to pursue your goals.

At UKHO, we believe that in order to deliver exceptional customer service, our people need to be given the opportunity to develop and thrive in our midst. You will therefore be instrumental in ensuring our learning and development (L&D) opportunities are of the highest standards, creatively addressing the needs of every individual member of the team and seeking to establish a pipeline of talent for the future. As such, we will look to you to devise and implement everything from one-on-one mentorship to training courses for entire divisions, identifying gaps in knowledge and nurturing key aptitudes such as cartographic skills. You will also grow our senior leadership capabilities and embed a well-considered performance management culture, ensuring our people stay motivated and enthused about the exciting work they are being exposed to and that culture changes are implemented where needed.

Incorporating current legislation and our future plans for UKHO into your work, you will also take responsibility for our Management Apprenticeships. We will therefore expect you to have exceptional communication skills, with the capacity to see the bigger picture. Coming from a commercial L&D Management background in which you addressed the key duties of this role, you will be a qualified coach or experienced mentor. A natural leader with the capacity to work collaboratively, you will be committed to building capability within our team. Crucially, you will also be comfortable promoting programmes of change, supporting colleagues through these vital periods of transformation.

This is an exciting opportunity to join an industry-leading organisation. We want you to achieve your full potential, so we will support your ambitions and provide you with access to career-defining projects. Benefitting from the friendly camaraderie that exists within our team, you will also receive a desirable benefits package and a good work/life balance. So if you’re ready to take our people to the next level of excellence – in an environment where your concepts and plans will be supported – then we’d be delighted to hear from you.

Candidates need to create a competency statement, listing the competencies underneath the shortlist criteria.

This needs to be sent, alongside a CV to recruitment@ukho.gov.uk
