Shape Britain’s defence force.
We are at an important moment in history for Britain’s armed forces. With increased state-based threats, the potential impact of cyber attacks and the persistent challenges posed by terrorism, it is more important than ever that we are ready to defend British people, our country and our economic interests. As such, we are increasing defence spending, with plans to invest £178billion in equipment, support and infrastructure over the next ten years. And while this expenditure is necessary – so too is the investment that we make in our people.
We feel it is imperative that our people are reflective of the nation they are working to defend. As such, we are passionate about ensuring our teams are made up of a broad mix of perspectives and backgrounds, representing the diversity of Britain. Our Joint Forces Command (JFC) is central to this challenge, as it is made up of more than 22,000 people, comprising every skillset from intelligence to medical services. Overseeing our people strategy for this Strategic Workforce team, you will therefore support employees stretching from Whitehall to the Falklands, putting measures in place to ensure we have the workforce needed to deliver our defence initiatives. This is a broad transformation programme, in which you will help us make £900million of savings. From identifying, securing and managing talent to implementing learning and development opportunities and employee engagement, this is a multi-layered role with the scope to transform our future capabilities.
This is a fast-paced team, in which you will be expected to work quickly and efficiently, adapting to the immediate needs of the role and prioritising tasks accordingly. You will therefore have board or executive level HR experience at a complex organisation which supports a range of different workplaces. Confident in your ability to drive change, you will be fluent in all key HR functions such as reward and recognition and pay negotiations, and your influencing and negotiating skills will prove invaluable when shaping HR strategy. With good analytical and MI skills, you will be a natural leader with the confidence required to identify the changes we need to make. You will also have a meticulous knowledge of HR standards and employment law, and it would be desirable if you are MCIPD qualified.
Opportunities like this are quite simply rare. As an inclusive employer with a keen focus on supporting and developing our people, we think our global workforce are the best in the world. With the further kudos of embracing a role in which you will be contributing to the safety and wellbeing of our people and the British population as a whole, this is possibly the most important career move you will ever make. Join us today, and explore what the future holds for you.
