Programme Director, Armed Forces Future Recruiting Programme

Ministry of Defence

£80,000

Andover

The Ministry of Defence’s aim to protect the nation’s security, independence and interests relies heavily on its Armed Forces, comprising the Navy, Army and RAF. We manage the world’s 5th largest defence budget. Our military and civilian staff are the key to everything and this role will see you provide not just the volume of military personnel required, but the talent to maximise our resources.

Leading a multi-disciplined team, drawn from across the Armed Forces, based in Army Headquarters in Andover, your main focus will be to shape the Armed Forces Future Recruiting Programme. From 2022, we expect to be using the best recruiting practices and cutting-edge marketing and recruit management technology as we deliver a highly complex pan-Defence transformation programme.

First, you’ll need to build a clear picture of the Navy, Army and RAF requirements and users’ needs. Then, consulting and collaborating across Defence and Whitehall, and with Ministers and industry partners, you’ll lay out a roadmap that delivers the talented recruits we need – and inspire the support to make it a reality.

You’ll need the kind of CV that marks you out as the perfect choice to manage a c. £2bn programme. Experience of large-scale recruitment operations and an understanding of the processes behind Government Major Projects and Investment Approvals will certainly help.

However, it’s your track record of enhancing functional and professional organisational capabilities that will be most vital. With the gravitas to brief and influence Boards and industry leaders, you’ll bring an innovative approach to our activities – and the drive to see your good ideas take root and thrive.

There is a range of benefits on offer, including the Civil Service pension and a competitive salary; more may be available for an exceptional candidate.  But ultimately, the real reward is the challenge of developing an organisation intrinsic to the very fabric of our society.
