Frustrated being a little fish in a big pond?

Want more autonomy and ability to implement your own ideas?

Want to develop the HR function in an agile and high calibre environment?

The blue chip world of HR can be fantastic, you get the opportunity to work with great people, see cutting edge business and HR practices, get investment to develop the people strategy and are surrounded by talented people that can help you develop professionally. This role offers all of that but it's with an organisation of a different scale, a rapidly growing boutique consultancy business. Moreover, you will have the added bonus of leading the HR agenda as a key member of the management team, with the key responsibility of developing the people agenda, as their first dedicated HR Manager.

Reporting to a Board Director, you will lead the people function (ably supported by a Recruitment Coordinator). Covering the entire employee lifecycle you will get variety and the opportunity to really shape the operations. As a business that is made up of consultants and analysts that advise high profile organisations across the public, private and not-for-profit sectors you will be surrounded by intelligent and high calibre people. They are at a stage in their organisational evolution where building internal capability is top of the agenda, a big part of this is hiring their first HR Manager to support growth. Unusually for a someone stepping into such a role, you will join a company with solid HR architecture already in place so you won't have to start from a blank sheet, but you will be able to iterate and improve things (think 'good to great'). Importantly, you will have the opportunity to use your expertise to drive the business forward.

As a consulting business, they value ideas and innovation and love to see where best practice can be employed to make real organisational improvements. This approach is as much the case in this role as it is in the work they do for clients. Therefore, you will be an experienced HR generalist with a solid technical understanding across the function. Someone that knows what good looks like and enjoys coming up with, and trying, new ideas. You will love building relationships (this is of a scale where you will get to know everyone you work with) and get a buzz from unlocking problems and changing the way that people see things.

Experience of a consulting environment would be useful, but is not essential. The role would suit either someone that has experience in working at a similar scale as an HR lead, or someone that has built their experience within a larger, best practice, organisation, and is now ready to take the helm.
