General HR Function

The Care Quality Commission (CQC) is the independent regulator of health and adult social care in England. It makes sure that health and social care services are provided to people with safe, effective, compassionate, high-quality care while continuously driving the improvement of care services. In recent years, the CQC has radically changed the way it works, resulting in greater confidence within its systems and findings. Their ambition for the next few years is a more targeted, responsive and collaborative approach to regulation so more people get high quality care.

The Director of People will be expected to provide leadership to CQC’s People Directorate and create an environment of excellence whilst delivering on strategic and operational priorities. They will lead the design, ownership and implementation of people and workforce strategies and supporting business plans, ensuring these are directly linked to CQC’s strategic objectives whilst maintaining a culture of continuous improvement.

The Director of People will report into CQC’s Chief Operating Officer and will provide authoritative advice as CQC’s principle advisor on people to the Chief Executive Officer, Executive Team and the Board on all employment related matters. They will also work closely with the Director of Engagement to further develop communications strategies to enhance employee engagement. As well as providing collaborative best practice HR advice, they will be heavily focused on organisational design and development, resourcing, learning and development and talent management.

Candidates should have significant experience in a senior HR leadership role in a large and complex environment with CIPD or other postgraduate qualification in Human Resources or equivalent experience. Furthermore, the experience of leading and motivating diverse groups of colleagues to create high performing teams is essential.
