Your new role

Based in Sheffield, working in our talent team, you will be driving delivery of our strategic people priorities in collaboration with stakeholders in HR and the business. You will be providing expert advice and guidance relating to talent acquisition, management, retention, and deployment, as well as overseeing the effective delivery of talent development programmes into the Home Office. 

We are looking for individuals with strong programme or project management experience, confident managing large budgets and ideally with a demonstrable interest in talent management. You’ll need strong stakeholder management and analytical skills, be confident working with staff at all levels (including SCS), and be comfortable working as part of a team to deliver. context of our work. 

What you'll do day-to-day

A junior talent manager/lead would be expected to be independently managing and co-ordinating discrete talent development interventions and programmes: for example, managing communications plans; acting as the main point of contact for delegates and suppliers; and liaising with commercial colleagues as needed to ensure sound budget management. You will manage information sharing and MI reporting and conduct evaluation and quality assurance on our talent interventions.

A senior talent manager/lead would be expected to be responsible for managing a small team, influencing stakeholders to ensure our talent strategy is aligned with workforce plans across the Department, and leading the programme management of our talent and leadership development interventions including managing budgets, commercial activities, and MI reporting. You will be managing relationships across and outside the Department, including with Civil Service Talent and external suppliers, and developing our corporate approach to evaluation, diversity, and MI. 

Skills Required

Essential

In all roles, we will require the following knowledge, skills and experience: 

  • Operational HR experience, with knowledge of learning and development theory 
  • Highly organised and able to prioritise effectively against competing demands 
  • Clear verbal and written communication skills and strong stakeholder management skills 
  • CIPD qualified or equivalent, or willing to work towards that or a relevant professional accreditation 
  • Experience co-ordinating the delivery and implementation of work; identifying and managing risk to inform future plans 
  • Able to think strategically and translate that into pragmatic recommendations and solutions 
  • Strong planning and management skills, with experience managing the workload of diverse teams 
  • Experience successfully leading and delivering projects in a large, complex organisation 
  • Strong analytical skills and the ability to distil multiple views into high quality solutions 
  • Evidence of working with and effectively influencing senior stakeholders, communicating regularly on progress 
  • Experience of people and budget management 
  • Knowledge of project management principles, confident working to and managing expectations of multiple stakeholders 
    Experience keeping stakeholders informed, tailoring messages as appropriate and managing expectations. 
  • Proven ability to work at pace, delivering high quality which meets customer need
