Pay and Reward Lead

Location: Bootle, Merseyside
Starting salary £37,578 - £44,331

YOUR STRATEGIES WILL ENSURE WE ATTRACT, AND KEEP, THE BEST PEOPLE

If you have sound knowledge of pay strategies within a complex organisation and experience of developing innovative reward solutions, this is your chance to build a fascinating and unique career with the Health and Safety Executive.

Great Britain enjoys one of the best records in the world on health and safety and is seen as a leader in this field. HSE is at the heart of this - working to help keep Britain’s workforce safe and healthy. As you’d expect, we employ many talented people, including Policy, Science, Regulation and Enforcement experts, which means we need excellent pay and reward strategies to attract, reward and retain the very best.

As a Pay and Reward Lead with HSE, you’ll be tasked with leading a team responsible for our pay policy, our reward strategy and our annual pay award proposal. You’ll also manage our current pay policies and procedures, evaluating and reviewing them where needed, so that they continue to support HSE’s business needs.

Ensuring our pay strategy meets the needs of the business and is delivered accurately and on time will be key. What’s more, we’ll look to you to help us develop HSE’s long-term reward strategy to attract and retain talent and reward great performance. And, when it comes to providing innovative and fresh solutions to a variety of pay challenges, again, we'll count on your expertise to deliver.

A great opportunity to play a leading role in developing innovative pay and reward solutions, it calls for experience in policy development, interpretation and application and a good understanding of the current climate in the public sector. You’ll also need to be analytical, great at solving problems and comfortable collaborating with others to develop options and proposals, presenting these at senior management meetings.

Ideally, you hold a CIPD qualification and/or are a member of the CIPD. If not, you should be willing to study for it. What’s for certain is you're used to building, developing and leading a small team of HR professionals and have experience of influencing, consulting and negotiating at an operational and strategic level. Building credible partnerships with a range of stakeholders, including trade unions, also comes naturally to you, as does delivering multiple projects at pace, often in an environment of ambiguity and conflicting opinions.

At HSE, we invest in our people. We’ll offer you all the support and training opportunities you need in your role. And, because you’ll work within Government, you’ll enjoy all the rewards of a career with the Civil Service. The benefits you’ll receive here include:

  • Competitive rates of pay, reviewed each year with performance related awards
  • Access to the highly competitive Civil Service Pension Scheme, to which we contribute around 26%
  • Family friendly policies and working hours to help balance your home life and career
  • 25 days annual holiday, plus bank holidays and Civil Service privilege leave
  • A range of parental leave options, including shared parental leave and special leave
  • Encouraging your professional development through specialist networks and professional bodies
