United by the common goal of helping individuals and businesses pay the tax they owe in order to generate the funds the UK requires for its public services, HM Revenue & Customs (HMRC) offers a forward-thinking working environment that is quite exceptional. Committed to becoming one of the world’s most modern and efficient tax authorities, we are on an exciting journey of development. With 63000 people working for us, we are currently restructuring our working facilities, bringing more than 100 local offices together into 13 built-for-purpose regional centres. The Chief Digital and Information Officer (CDIO) Group are at the heart of this transformation – and it is here that you could join us.

With 4,000 people, CDIO Group are a key part of HMRC. As one of the most digital organisations in the UK we are leading the biggest digital transformation in Europe. To support this, we are also transforming how we are structured and becoming increasingly customer centric.

You will be leading on both strategic and operational capability planning, working closely with the Senior Leadership Team, the Director General and other HR professionals to deliver CDIO Group’s business and people objectives.  You will lead a team of 30 HR professionals as you champion diversity and inclusion, driving a culture change, looking beyond technology to help the business perform as we transform and provide a consistently good employee experience. Your role will also cover strategic resource and skills planning to ensure the development of our people and promote clear career progression options to support our recruitment and retention strategy.

To be equal to this fast-paced role, you will have exceptional leadership and people-management skills, with the ability to inspire and empower your team. You will ideally be a qualified member of the Chartered Institute of Personnel and Development (CIPD), or you will have an equivalent level of senior HR expertise. With a good understanding of technology (possibly gained in a technology environment) you will be comfortable using the relevant industry language, and you will have a good knowledge of the technology market place. Having previously used HR as a tool for culture change, you will be capable of balancing the needs of multiple stakeholders in a multi-layered organisation.

This is a career-defining challenge with the scope to really push your capabilities. With plenty of support and the chance to further your knowledge with ongoing professional development opportunities, you will also benefit from a competitive benefits package and a good work/life balance. Join us, and be central to the ongoing development of a vitally-important national organisation.
