The Health and Safety Executive (HSE) has a clear mission, to prevent work-related death, injury and ill health; the organisation saves lives every day. People-centric, HSE’s 2,500 colleagues are often amongst the world’s foremost experts in their respective fields and are constantly innovating to address the needs of an increasingly complex world of work.
Working with the Board as a critical member of the Executive Management Team, the HR Director will shape and influence a change agenda which will impact every area of the organisation and ensure that HSE has the skills and capabilities required to sustain its leading-edge services.
Leading a team of over 70 people, the successful individual will partner with the CEO to shape and implement an ambitious and inclusive people strategy for a diverse, complex and multi-site colleague group. A highly visible role, the successful individual will be an ambassador for HSE and collaborate with key stakeholders including (but not limited to) Trade Unions, DWP and HMRC.
The successful individual will be an exceptional leader with a service delivery and people-focused ethos. You will be:
• Inspiring – about our work and its future
• Confident – in our engagement with others
• Empowering – to allow our teams to deliver
Although the role could be based at any HSE office location, you will be expected to spend at least three days each week at the HSE Head Office in Merseyside, with additional travel to the UK-wide HSE offices as required.
Please note existing Civil Servants applying on promotion will usually be appointed to the salary minimum or within 10% of existing salary, while those appointed on level transfer will retain their existing salary.
