Basingstoke and Deane Borough Council

Head of HR & OD

Up to £80k

Basingstoke and Deane is one of the most successful places in the south east, and the council is playing an integral part in building its reputation as an ideal destination for homes, businesses and visitors. And we’re getting it right. The local economy is valued at £5.2bn and we are home to a number of major UK businesses. We’re also incredibly proud of our 94% resident satisfaction rate, confirming our commitment to delivering on the things that matter to our residents. The driving force behind this great borough and great council is great staff – which is why this is such a key appointment.

Our Head of HR & OD will be central to change and modernisation within the organisation, establishing the right conditions to ensure effective staff engagement, a focus on wellbeing and that our people strategy is successfully aligned to our corporate objectives. You’ll support the executive leadership team in translating new initiatives into practice, drawing on well-established and capable HR Business Partners to lead on operational implementation.

It’s a role that will suit an experienced HR leader who already has a track record in delivering cultural and organisational change programmes. A practical hands-on approach is essential, even though your focus will be on strategic rather than operational HR & OD issues. You’ll be an enabling influence within the organisation, persuading and negotiating to unblock complex issues. Experience of managing employee relations within a unionised setting will be of real value. We’re looking for personal and professional credibility, and a track record of advising on complex people issues at the highest level within your organisation. This is a highly visible role within the council, so it’s essential that you understand the dynamics of working in a political environment, and that you can offer consistent and well-informed professional advice across the political spectrum.

Visit www.BD-HROD.co.uk to find out more or contact Steve Guest at Solace in Business for a confidential discussion on 020 7976 3311.

Closing date: 17th June.
