Are you an experienced HR leader, looking for an exciting and challenging new role?

We are looking to appoint an individual with organisational wide HR experience, and a dynamic combination of practical ‘hands on’ HR expertise with a strong strategic focus to build a proactive approach to HR expert services including recruitment, pay & reward, HR policy, casework, employee relations and engagement across the whole organisation.

You will be joining the HR Leadership Team at a time when we are continuing to strengthen existing HR expertise, and develop a business focused and future‐facing HR function that is effective and enables ONS to deliver our ambitious strategic aims ‐ including the delivery of the 2021 Census, one of the largest programmes across Government and an essential tool for population policy decisions over the next decade.

About People and Business Services

The People and Business Services (PBS) Directorate reports directly to the National Statistician.

Our purpose is to enable the UK Statistics Authority and ONS to deliver their business strategy by putting the People and Business Services function at the forefront of implementing industry-leading, game-changing people practices.

This role will lead the provision of best in class HR services and products to the UK Statistics Authority (UKSA), ONS and wider government.

PBS is a varied, dynamic and welcoming directorate whose purpose is to attract, nurture and retain the very best functional and leadership skills we need to deliver and enable our people to perform at their best.

We also provide our customers with a range of expert services such as Talent, Learning & Development, Diversity and Inclusion, Culture, Resourcing, Strategic Workforce Planning, Employee Relations, Pay & Reward, Policy and Organisation Development & Design. To deliver this requires a step change to our approach in HR and this role is crucial to setting the direction for an insight led, values driven, and outcome focused professional function; ensuring that managers and leaders take account for delivery of our people strategy, putting our people at the heart of everything we do.

The PBS Directorate has 270 team members and an annual budget of approximately £26 million including income generated through property and recruitment services.
