About the role

The HR and Development Manager is key role supporting the College to attract, retain and develop staff to deliver our strategy and plans.   This is an opportunity to work closely with the Senior Management Team to develop overall people strategies, policies and procedures across the organisation.

The role includes a wide range of responsibilities across all areas of people management including:

  • Developing and delivering organisational plans for HR and learning and development
  • Providing HR and employment law advice and solutions to managers and staff
  • Developing and implementing employment policies and procedures
  • Providing management information and HR metrics to support decision making
  • Managing the recruitment and selection process
  • Building good working relationships across the College, promoting good staff communication and consultation, and a positive working environment
  • Monitoring and developing the reward, recognition and performance management strategies and processes
  • Influencing and supporting organisational development

About you

The successful candidate will be an experienced HR generalist with good knowledge of employment law and best practice, and the ability to build strong working relationships with managers and staff across the organisation.  You will have experience of advising on complex employee relations and change management processes, as well as developing HR policies and procedures. You will be highly organised and proactive to develop and deliver HR and learning and develop plans to meet organisational need.  As a standalone role, you will be self-confident and able to work across a wide range of short and longer term tasks.

About the College

The Royal College of Pathologists is a professional membership organisation and registered charity with members who are doctors and scientists working in hospitals, universities and laboratories in the UK and overseas.    Pathologists work to prevent, diagnose, treat and monitor diseases and are involved in the diagnosis of disorders affecting every organ of the body, from before birth to after death. The majority of tests requested by doctors will be performed and interpreted by a clinical scientist or medically qualified pathologist.
