HR Manager, Law Firm, Cheltenham

An international law firm operating in UK regions, Europe, Asia and the Middle East with a turnover of £150 million, 12 broad legal disciplines and focusing on 10 industry sectors.

Your new role

This is a generalist role within the Cheltenham Office forming part of a larger Human Resources department based across the UK. It is largely operational and supporting the local partners with their goals, the people in the office with all their HR requirements and rolling out the strategic initiatives where required. Your responsibilities will include the following:


* Provide support and advice to partners and all line managers on a full range of employee relations activities including performance management, absence management, discipline and grievance procedures, flexible working and equal opportunities.
* Provide pastoral support where required on a strictly confidential basis

* Advise managers on all aspects of resource planning including resourcing and recruitment methods and process, defining resource requirements and timelines
* Work with wider HR Team to ensure recruitment activity is coordinated and cost effective
* Oversee the graduate recruitment and work experience scheme and recruitment for the Cheltenham office
* Oversee local preferred suppliers' contracts and relationships

* Research and make recommendations for budget proposals in relation to Cheltenham activity
* Monitor budget on an on-going basis to manage spend
* Ensure aware of headcount budgets across office and that all requirements are linked in to wider picture

* Assist with provision of local salary bench-marking and make recommendations for local remuneration strategy into HR Director / Head of Reward
* Coach partners and all line managers to effectively deliver consistent and relevant messages

* Ensure all HR processes are followed effectively at all times within the Cheltenham team to ensure positive experience for candidates, employees and firm
* Have working knowledge of the HRIS to ensure that information is uploaded accurately and promptly
* Ensure that starter and leaver processes are correctly followed by the team and assist when necessary
* Ensure that absence management procedures are followed with consistency across teams
* Oversee or manage Occupational Health referrals for Cheltenham

* Oversee and manage the HR Assistant within the Cheltenham Office
* Assist and participate with strategic HR projects and consider new initiatives which could improve efficiencies within the team and wider firm
* Act as a sounding board for Cheltenham Partners in particular the Head of Office
* Liaise effectively with the HR Director and build excellent working relationships with the wider HR Team


What you'll need to succeed


* Excellent communication skills, both verbal and written
* Ability to work within a form of matrix management between different offices
* Ability to manage workload in an environment of regular interruptions
* Strong influencing and negotiating skills in order to ensure adherence with firm policy in an environment where there are multiple business owners
* Willingness to adopt a hands on approach due to nature of the office
* Strong problem solving skills
* Experience of HRIS in order to support team
* Excellent attention to detail to ensure credibility of HR function
* Proven record of delivering good quality work output on a timely basis
* The ability to work well under pressure and within tight deadlines
