About the role

We have high ambitions here at Surrey County Council – our aim is to be recognised, simply, as outstanding and we are in the midst of organisation wide transformation that will help us get there. The challenge is huge, the opportunities even greater.

We have completely re-designed and re-focused our HR&OD function, with a strong focus on modernising our organisation, culture and workforce – where individuals thrive and are able to perform at their very best. You will be encouraged to think differently, share your experience and create solutions that truly deliver change.

If the idea of being part of a team which is committed to making a real impact to public service, and to the lives of the residents of Surrey, then this opportunity is for you!

As part of our exciting new HR&OD function, you will play a critical role in the development and implementation of modern, effective and best fit policies, practices and procedures.

Your remit will span all aspects of our people practice and will involve working closely and collaboratively across the HR&OD function and the wider organisation.

Being effective in how we design and implement policies which support the organisation to move away from a rigid approach to modern, flexible people management practice is key in this role.

With a professional qualification within the field of employment practice or equivalent experience, you will have knowledge and experience of how to design and implement progressive and modern approaches to policy design.

You naturally build relationships, with a genuine desire to 'get under the skin' of the business. With a real knack of supporting trades unions and staff discussions by communicating and reporting in a authoritative, engaging and compelling way - leaving clear messages while having an open and collaborative style.

Your high level of expertise in HR policy development and implementation enables you to really understand how to design best fit solutions.
