Volunteer opportunity: Board of Trustees for Money Advice Plus  – vacancy for new Trustee with HR experience

We are pleased to invite expressions of interest in a vacancy that we have on our Board.

Money Advice Plus is a major charity based in Brighton/ Hove and Eastbourne. We help people to manage their money effectively through expert benefit, debt and budgeting advice, and practical money-handling support. For example, we support people who are at risk of losing their home, and we support people who are the victims of financial abuse. We take a non-judgemental and flexible approach which is tailored to each person. We work with some of the most vulnerable people in the community.

We are also effective in providing information and advice to national and local politicians about the real-life impact of social policy. For example, we meet regularly with local MPs, and sometimes with government ministers.

We employ around 25 professional staff, and currently run on a budget of around £1m.

The Board of Trustees are looking to bring into their team a new Trustee with HR experience. We are looking for someone who will help us strengthen our ability to

  • support our clients as effectively as possible;
  • influence social policy through the provision of information;
  • promote the help we can provide to Housing Associations and other organisations which support vulnerable people.
  • ensure that our staff are recruited, managed, supported and developed in the best possible way

In addition to these areas, we hope that our new Trustees will bring a high level of enthusiasm and commitment, and become involved in all aspects of our work.

We have been operating in one form or another since 1897. Like all charities, MAP faces huge challenges driven by changes in social policy and funding for this sector. MAP has an outstanding staff team, and new Board members will have a crucial role in ensuring that they have the support, continuity and representation that they deserve.

For the successful candidates, it is a great opportunity to gain experience of strategy, leadership and governance, and to make a significant difference to our community. As always, we will welcome the opportunity to increase the skill set and diversity of the Board.

More information about the role of the Board and its members is available on our website. www.moneyadviceplus.org.uk
