Deputy Director, Human Resources, Employee Experience
The Department for International Trade is looking for a Deputy Director of HR, Employee Experience, to help meet the challenges and opportunities facing the department in the coming years. DIT is the international economic Department responsible for bringing together policy, promotion and financial expertise to break down the barriers to trade and investment and help businesses succeed, delivering a new trade policy framework for the UK as it leaves the EU.
People are fundamental to the success of the Department and the Deputy Director is a key part of strategic leadership and will be a member of the HR Executive Team. Your principle role will be to understand and improve how employees interact with HR across a range of key services by identifying improvements, synergies with other corporate activities and opportunities to increase efficiency and reduce waste.
The successful individual will be responsible for the Employee Experience portfolio within HR and will report directly into the HR and Organisational Development Director.
This is a broad and challenging portfolio made up of the People Policy and Employee Relations team, Resourcing, the HR Advisory and Onboarding team and the Pay and Reward team. You will need to be comfortable working at pace and scale and in an ambiguous and changing environment to provide leadership on these key deliverables:
Developing the resourcing strategy for a growing and changing Department to ensure the right skills, capability and talent are in place through EU Exit and beyond.
Reviewing and refreshing HR policies and, in the immediate term ensuring we have the right reward and policies in place to support our EU Exit and Future Trade work.
Leading senior engagement with our stakeholders to understand and prioritise HR requirements and ensuring the appropriate level of HR support and advice is in place.
Leading development and delivery of the DIT People Plan linked to the wider employee engagement agenda, offering expert advice on proven initiatives to improve engagement.
Providing regular engagement with the DIT Executive Committee, People Committee and Permanent Secretary on a range of issues relating to the portfolio.
The successful candidate will be able to demonstrate:
A proven track record of having led and delivered complex initiatives that impact upon organisational behaviour and culture.
The ability to lead the organisation through its handling of complex people issues. Be a visible and inclusive leader to your team, setting direction and role modelling the Civil Service leadership statement.
Experience of building strong and influential relationships to drive things through at a senior level, including providing personal coaching and trusted advice to Board level stakeholders.
A high degree of personal credibility and resilience, along with the enthusiasm to deliver and personally respond quickly to changing situations in complex high-profile contexts.
