Trustee

Trusteeship is very rewarding for many reasons - from making a difference to the charitable cause, to gaining valuable experience and working with some amazing people at a very high level. In return trustees are expected to give of their time, skills, knowledge and abilities in this essential role of governance of our charity. Trustees will share our values and have a strong personal commitment to our aims and objectives.

About the organisation: Kisharon is an award-winning learning disability charity. We have a vibrant and diverse offering - through our Nursery, School, FE college, supported living, employment and social opportunity programmes, and our innovative social enterprises - including a library, bike shop and design centre, we are passionate about supporting  children and adults to progress, enjoy life and feel valued in the community.

Share our values? – be part of our success.

Position description: Our Trustees ensure Kisharon has a clear strategy, and that its work and goals are in line with its vision. Trustees are the ‘guardians of purpose’ of the charity, making sure that all decisions put the needs of our beneficiaries first. They safeguard the charity’s assets – both physical and intangible, such as its values and reputation. Their job is to use their knowledge, skills and experience to make sure these are used well and that the charity is run sustainably.

Trustees are expected to attend quarterly Board meetings and an annual Strategy Away Day. They may be required to chair or be a member of a Board committee/working group, and are expected to attend relevant Kisharon events. The regular time commitment is not normally expected to exceed 1 or 2 days per month.

Selection criteria:
We are particularly interested in hearing from candidates with a background or advanced knowledge in:
• Social Care / SEN / Social Enterprise / learning disability – professional and lived experience
• HR / employment law
• IT and communications
• Fundraising and Marketing

Talent comes in many guises and it is central to this process that new voices and perspectives are brought into our governance. We are actively seeking applications from those whose life experience will enrich perspectives and increase the effectiveness of our work. We particularly encourage applications from those who can contribute lived experience of: disability; accessing services for communities which we serve; and/or relevant professional experience. Alongside the requisite trustee skills, we equally hope to ensure diversity of experience.
