The Role

Reporting to the Director for Enabling Services, the Head of Human Resources will play a pivotal role in developing and implementing innovative L&D strategies and people plans, which incorporate all Human Resource functional areas and policies and procedures across Northamptonshire Police and Northamptonshire Fire and Rescue Services.  Our pending relocation to a new combined premises, presents an exceptional opportunity to provide strategic leadership to the HR Service in relation to all HR Policy, Employee Relations and related legislation to ensure the provision of up-to-date information and advice on best practice in these specific areas.

As Head of Human Resources, you will be responsible for advising and influencing Chief Officers on all functional HR matters, developing People Plans to create an environment that develops a professional and diverse workforce through effective resource planning, recruitment and professional development that delivers strategic improvements, long term performance and cultural change needs for the organisation. 

The Person

The ideal candidate will be a proven HR leader ideally CIPD qualified (or equivalent), with a track record operating at a strategic level, delivering transformational change and shaping new policies and processes in a variety of HR roles across the public sector. You will possess the flair to work collaboratively with strategic leads across corporate functions contributing to the effective delivery of key business objectives.  Engagement with trade unions will also be a key part of your remit, and you will play a central role in developing and nurturing strong working relationships to help develop a forward-looking function, which is seen as a trusted partner and which supports a truly engaged workforce.

You will have gained extensive experience within a comparable public sector environment and be used to working and navigating the complexities related to the sector. You must possess the leadership skills to motivate, inspire and empower and support diverse teams and demonstrate comprehensive and current knowledge of employment and equality legislation to advise on complex cases.
