Could you be an Academy Ambassador in Colchester?

The Academy Ambassadors programme brings the expertise of the business world onto boards at multi-academy trusts (MATs) throughout the country to raise standards of education and improve the life chances of young people, which is critical to our social and economic success.

The opportunity

Market Field Learning Community seeks two new non-executive directors with experience in HR and/or managing change. The new board members will support the trust in building and embedding its ethos and vision in its schools and managing key risksThe trust currently consists of two special schools based in Colchester and Witham. A third schools which is a free school has been approved to join the trust and will open in June 2021.The trust has a cohort of 430 pupils and employs 275 members of staff whilst operating with a budget of approximately £6m. As a special school trust, all pupils have moderate to severe learning needs. A high proportion of pupils are in receipt of free school meals.

The strategic expertise required for this role includes:

  • Human Resources OR
  • Change Management

Applicants should have an extensive and demonstrable background in senior leadership roles, with strategic vision and knowledge of the non-executive director role.

What's involved?

Board governance in education is a strategic, 'eyes on, hands off' commitment which typically involves attending c. six board meetings per year/6-8 hours' time per month.

You will be responsible for:

  • Ensuring clarity of vision, ethos and strategic direction
  • Holding executive leaders to account for the educational performance of the organisation and its pupils, and the effective and efficient performance management of staff; and
  • Overseeing the financial performance of the organisation and making sure its money is well spent

As an Academy Ambassador, you will join our Ambassadors alumni network which provides resources, guidance, networking events and webinars to support you in your role. All roles are pro bono.
