General HR Function

Employees are at the heart of everything the Councils do, and we have an exciting opportunity for a HR Business Partner to lead the delivery of HR Services to our Wandsworth Children’s Services Directorate.

Working as a senior manager, you will be the main link between the directorate and the HR Service, influencing decisions and the direction of both. Managing a small team of professional consultants/advisers, building strong relationships with senior leaders, you will deliver highly effective HR support.

You will also develop a deep understanding of the directorate’s business strategy to ensure you support managers to provide the best start in life to all our children and young people.  You will play a key role in developing and delivering the people elements of the Children’s Services Equality, Diversity and Inclusion Action plan and other key projects.

To be successful in this role, you should be able to demonstrate:

  • An understanding of current and future people issues affecting local government and the wider public sector
  • A deep understanding of employment law and HR best practice
  • Experience of coaching, supporting and influencing senior managers and HR staff in all aspects of people management
  • Highly effective oral and written communication skills
  • Ability to apply effectively the principles of equality, diversity and inclusion to all aspects of your role
  • A flexible approach to meet ever changing demands

To support you in this challenging but rewarding role, you will be able to benefit from a range of flexible working options.  This could include compressed hours, remote working, term time working and a generous holiday allowance of 39 days including paid bank holidays.

For an informal discussion about the role, please contact John Deakins, Head of HR Business Partnering (john.deakins@richmondandwandsworth.gov.uk).
