We are now looking for a talented and experienced leader to join our Management Team and play a key role in taking the Institute forward.  As Director of HR Research and Consulting your role will be to lead and develop our employer-facing work and to increase our impact on HR policy and practice. 

As a leading independent research centre, the Institute for Employment Studies (IES) has over 50 years’ track record of delivering high quality research and consultancy in employment, education and human resource policy and practice.  A charity and not for profit organisation with a core team of around 40 people, we focus on delivering applied research and practical support to help improve public policy and employer practice. 

We work with employers, employer bodies and government agencies and departments.  We deliver a range of services including expert insight and research; consultancy and support; evaluations of workplace interventions; and analysis of key HR trends and issues.  We also convene an active, subscription-based network of employers (the HR Network).

As Director of HR Research and Consultancy, your role will be to develop and lead our HR work programme, working with the Head of HR Research Development and a wider team of HR experts and researchers to develop our HR offer, diversify our funding base and raise our profile.  Whatever your background, whether in research, consultancy, HR management, the private, public or not for profit sector, you will have strong applied HR research and/ or HR consulting skills and experience along with an excellent understanding of current HR issues and challenges.  Successful experience of leading, motivating and building effective teams and working effectively with partners will also be required.  Business development skills and commercial acumen will be essential.
