Service Lead - Human Resources

Following a restructure in the Strategy & Governance Department, a fantastic opportunity has arisen for an ambitious and committed individual to take on a new and challenging role, leading the HR and Payroll teams for the Council.

About The Job

As a Service Lead, you will need to be a proven leader and a champion of innovation, creativity and trust. You will play an essential role in ensuring that the Human Resource and Payroll Team succeeds in delivering against all relevant strategic priorities and in respect of core business functions, for the benefit of Members, colleagues and for the communities that we serve across West Berkshire. 

Reporting to the Service Director for Strategy and Governance, the post holder will take a leading role in all strategic and operational workforce matters across the Council.   

The Service Lead will be a critical member of the senior management team in Strategy and Governance, and will play a vital role in helping to ensure the overall success of the Department.

Although this role is full time, we may be able to consider offering less hours than advertised providing they meet the requirements of the role and service which will be determined by the recruiting manager.

About You

Having significant and successful HR expertise and experience at a senior management level is essential to delivering this role, particularly with sound knowledge and understanding of the workings of local government.

You must be educated to degree level with chartered membership of the CIPD and a management qualification or a willingness to work towards one. Experience of managing significant and successful organisational change is essential as well as financial and budgetary management.

It is vital that you are an effective and motivational leader with the ability to facilitate change and drive continuous improvement through project management and performance review.
