Encephalitis is inflammation of the brain. The inflammation is caused either by an infection or through the immune system attacking the brain in error.

The Encephalitis Society is a life-saving, award-winning charity who provides support and information to people affected by the condition, as well as to medical professionals with an interest.  We raise awareness of encephalitis and collaborate on research into the condition.

OUR VISION is to live in a world where encephalitis is as rare as it possibly can be given its eradication is unlikely, and that those affected and their families, have access to early diagnosis, excellent management of their condition, timely access to rehabilitation and other forms of social support.

The Society is based in Malton, North Yorkshire and our trustees attend from all over the UK however for this position, and in support of our commitment to diversity and inclusion we would be particularly interested, but not exclusively, in hearing from candidates from Ireland/Eire, and/or from under-represented groups.

The Encephalitis Society is an exciting charity who delivers its quality services with passion and dynamism.  We are highly regarded among the scientific and medical communities as well as among those we serve.  We are looking for a Human Resources (HR) professional with several years’ experience in the field of HR to cover a one-year sabbatical for our existing trustee postholder.  The candidate will make a real difference to people whose lives have been devastated by this condition.

As a Trustee you will use your skills and experience to guide us through exciting times, shaping our HR alongside our governance, contributing to our strategic future and acting as an ambassador for all aspects of our work.

There is no need to have trustee experience to apply, but a keen desire to support our work is essential.

We hold board meetings four times a year – a mix of weekend and evenings. Trustees are also expected to engage with the life of the charity from time-to-time attending events and so forth. 

This role is voluntary and unremunerated.

We wish to recruit to the post as soon as possible and will screen and hold informal talks with candidates as applications are submitted.
