Joining a small central team, you will provide specialist advice and guidance to colleagues and help shape and deliver on specific equality and inclusion projects and initiatives. A major area of focus for this role is working on the priorities identified within the Race Equality Framework and associated projects, for example, the Race at Work Charter. You will work with senior management, staff and other networks, Committees, and other working groups to identify needs and meaningful actions to promote greater inclusion for all staff

You will advise on ways to effectively share best practice and will seek opportunities to address areas of under-representation, or differences in experiences and outcomes. You will be required to build effective working relationships with a wide range of colleagues, in particular, the Head of Equality, Diversity and Inclusion (EDI), the newly appointed officers and leads, to ensure a joined-up approach to all equality, inclusion and diversity work. The role is based in the Equality & Inclusion Unit and reports to the Equality and Inclusion Manager. The Unit provides expert advice on all equality and inclusion matters and is responsible for leading the implementation of the Equality and Inclusion Framework, working with Faculties and Services to ensure the Framework is embedded across the organisation.

What does the role entail?

As an Equality and Inclusion Officer your main duties will include:  Working with the E&I team, embedding equality and inclusion into strategies and policies;  Identifying opportunities where equality and inclusion can be further strengthened and integrated including ways to advance understanding of intersectionality;  Providing high quality specialist advice to staff across the institution, to support the inclusion of staff from all backgrounds;

What will you bring to the role?
As an Equality and Inclusion Officer you will have:  Knowledge of equalities legislation and the statutory responsibilities  Experience of delivering equality and inclusion strategies and accompanying actions in a large, complex organisation, while recognising the needs of different groups within the organisation;  Experience of providing high quality specialist equality and inclusion advice to colleagues at all levels of an organisation;  Professional interest in all areas of equality and inclusion and an understanding of the opportunities and challenges that equality and inclusion may pose within a workplace and/or educational environment;  An understanding of the barriers to race equality in the workplace and beyond and actions to minimise these;  Excellent interpersonal and communication skills with the ability to quickly build rapport and credibility and to convey complex information in a simple, clear, concise and persuasive manner to individuals and small groups
