Kingston University is going places. One of the most diverse universities in the country and named one of the top 40 in country and best for design in the latest Guardian University Guide league table rankings. We are passionate about enhancing our students' life chances by helping them make the most of their learning opportunity and equipping them with the skills and knowledge needed in the 21st Century's demanding workplace. We recognise that we need to continue the pace of change and to create and sustain an organisational culture that embeds new ways of working. A high-performing and customer-focused HR function is central to our future and achieving our ambitions.

We are now looking for an experienced and credible Head of HR Advice and Reward  to join us to proactively support a culture of high performance and to help us meet operational and strategic requirements of the University . Working closely with the new Executive Director of HR and in partnership with the Senior Leadership Team, you will be pivotal in managing complex case work and acting as a point of expert strategic advice.  Leading the HR Advisor team, you will be responsible for managing and developing them, whilst implementing a culture of professional growth, confidence, and continuous improvement.  This role will need to build relationships with trade union representatives, occupational health and legal advisors so experience of working closely with these stakeholders within a complex environment is key.  This is a new role with the potential for a permanent appointment.

You won’t need expert knowledge in Reward in this role, it’s your senior level leadership experience that’s essential, however you do need to be keen to work with the Executive Director of HR on reward projects, so an understanding of reward issues and report writing is also important.

You will be degree educated and possess recognised professional certification (CIPD or equivalent) or equivalent skills and experience. Successful candidates will have a proven background as a senior HR expert, though specific experience of Higher Education is not essential and we would welcome applications from a variety of sector backgrounds. Experience of managing complex people issues in a unionised environment together with a strong coaching style approach to collaboration, dispute resolution and problem solving is also required.

Agile working is available, however we anticipate the need to be on campus for around 3 days per week.
