Our aim is to be the best NHS Trust to work for in the country.  Join us as we embark on an exciting period of new investment and transformation in our People Directorate.

Oxford University Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust (OUH) is a world-renowned centre of clinical excellence and one of the largest NHS teaching trusts in the UK. The Trust is made up of four hospitals - the John Radcliffe Hospital, the Churchill Hospital and the Nuffield Orthopaedic Centre, all located in Oxford, and the Horton General Hospital in Banbury, north Oxfordshire. The Trust employs over 11,000 staff and provides a full range of clinical and specialist services. Our collaboration with the University of Oxford underpins the quality of the care that is provided to patients, from the delivery of high-quality research, bringing innovation from the laboratory bench to the bedside, to the delivery of high-quality education and training of doctors.

Following the appointment of our new Chief People Officer (CPO), our People Directorate is going through an exciting period of positive development. Our aspirational business case sets out the investment required and roadmap ahead to make OUH one of the best Trusts to work for in the country. With the full support of Trust leadership, we are now beginning that journey and are recruiting key new posts that will play a critical role in delivering our ambition.

In this newly created role of Assistant Director of Workforce – Pay, Policy & Reward, you will report to the Chief People Officer as a key member of the People Directorate senior leadership team, deputising for the Director of Workforce and supporting the delivery of the Trust’s strategic goals with a focus on all aspects of pay, policy and reward. You will develop a pay, policy and reward service providing a centre of excellence for strategy delivery, advice and support on all pay related matters.

Key responsibilities will include:

  • Leading and providing strategic direction to the development of pay and reward strategies to ensure the adoption of best practice and alignment to Trust business plans and strategic objectives.
  • Developing and leading the implementation of underpinning policies, procedures and systems to ensure delivery, monitoring progress against objectives.
  • Working in close collaboration across wider healthcare economy on pay and rewards, developing joint approaches where appropriate.
  • Providing expert advice to the Chief People Officer on all pay and reward matters relating to all staff under the remit of the remuneration and appointments committee, ensuring processes are fair and equitable and in line with agreed pay and reward strategies,
  • Taking the lead on issues relating to gender pay and pay discrimination against all groups and protected characteristics.

The successful candidate will need to bring experience of providing HR advice at a senior level in a highly complex unionised environment. You will need substantial experience in a specialist pay and reward post, experience of strategy development, policy development and review, and knowledge and understanding of equality, diversity and inclusion, and gender pay discrimination.

This is an exciting opportunity to join a leading healthcare provider and play a full role as a member of the Workforce Directorate leadership team during a period of renewed ambition and transformation. There is significant potential for the postholder to grow and develop the role with additional progression in the future.

OUH offer flexible working with the ability to work from home. There will be a requirement to be onsite at Cowley or John Radcliffe to meet the demands of the role.
