Head of HR 

(Part time flexible – 28 hours a week over 4 days) 

Optometrists have a major part to play in the health of the nation. They examine eyes for eye health problems and to enhance people’s quality of life by making them see more clearly by prescribing and fitting spectacles and contact lenses.

The College, a Royal Charter body and registered charity, has a unique role to play in supporting our 16,000 members through professional development, guidance and research to ensure they are well placed to deliver the highest quality eye care for their patients. 

The role
This is an exciting opportunity for an experienced HR professional to help shape our business and values-based culture through the delivery of a professional, comprehensive and effective HR service to a dedicated team of 50 employees plus a range of consultants and contractors. 

In addition to providing operational support and advice, the successful candidate must add value by taking a strategic lead in organisational development.

Skills and experience required
CIPD qualified, you will have a breadth of HR experience with a working knowledge of employment law. Excellent written and verbal communication skills will be essential, in order to provide effective advice and support at all levels coupled with the ability to influence, consult and negotiate. You will be adaptable and flexible in your approach to work and manage a varied workload.

You will be a successful HR Generalist with experience of the whole employee journey; including recruitment, induction, performance management, learning and development and employee engagement. In turn we can offer you a chance to shape HR strategy at the College having an influential role as part of the senior leadership team working with an engaged and supportive team.
