We are One Housing, and we create places for people to call home and support them to live well. With a breadth of services and expertise to help people whatever their housing, care or support needs.

Our Human Resources team is professional, friendly and we love what we do. We are passionate about the high-quality service we provide to all of our internal customers who in turn provide services to our external customers.

We offer our colleagues a welcoming, collaborative workplace and the chance to build a rewarding career with a not-for-profit organisation that is proud to make a genuine positive difference to people’s lives, each and every day.

Join our Human Resources team as a Head of Human Resources

Our Human Resources Team sits at the heart of what we do as we are a people-centred business. By providing outstanding specialist guidance and support to our colleagues we enable them to be their best at work - creating a well-managed, diverse and engaged workforce.

The variety in the team’s work reflects the breadth of services we offer, and the invaluable advice, guidance and support provided to the wider One Housing community of around 1700 colleagues.

We’re an organisation with strong values. We keep our promises; we do a great job; we value diversity; we work together; and we look for ways to improve. These are what make us such a great team, working together as one to achieve our vision.

The role

We have a fantastic opportunity for someone to join us in the position of Head of Human Resources for our large, complex and sector leading Care & Support function which currently operates across London and some of the Home Counties and employs circa 1000 staff. Your responsibilities will include:

  • Act as the senior HR Business Partner for the Care & Support Senior Management Team, providing people solutions to business challenges and nurturing close working relationships to build credibility as a senior HR professional with key leaders and managers, supporting them to deliver their business plans.
  • Provide overall leadership to the Care & Support HR team, creating an engaged team, a highly effective HR service and instilling a culture of: ‘can do’, business awareness, customer focus and continuous improvement.
  • Through a HR Manager direct report, responsible for overseeing the delivery of a high quality, commercial HR professional service, focused on business outcomes and solutions and the engagement of circa 1000 Care & Support staff. This covers all HR elements across Care & Support schemes and central services including restructures, TUPE and Employment Tribunals.
  • Reporting to the Human Resources Director, to play a key role in the HR Senior Management Team adopting a collegiate approach and collaborating on wider employment, organisational development and strategic people projects and programmes which aim to continuously improve the organisation and respond to new external developments and challenges
  • Lead on significant and highly complex organisational development projects within time and resource constraints for Care & Support and across the whole organisation, whilst also ensuring day to day operational service is maintained.
  • Act as an ambassador of the corporate culture and values through living them and ensuring direct reports do so also.  Actively support internal positive promotion of the whole HR Team service through establishing and maintaining credibility as a senior HR professional and ensuring others maintain the same high professional standards.

This role is usually based in an office in Camden, London NW1 with occasional travel to other locations in Greater London.  One Housing is moving towards hybrid working following the pandemic and so we anticipate the role will be part home and part office based.

What you will need to succeed

We are looking for someone who believes in working together as part of a team, who shares our values and who is friendly, resilient and engaging. The successful candidate will:

  • Strong strategic focus on achieving business objectives and how to provide effective HR solutions to strategic business issues, with the ability to operate and influence from frontline to Director level
  • Excellent knowledge of employment law, with experience of TUPE transfers, restructures and complex employee relations cases.
  • Strong people and team management and development skills with a track record of leading high performing teams.
  • Ability to contribute in a collaborative way as part of a professional senior management team.
  • High levels of influence and credibility as a senior HR professional in order to gain buy-in at Senior Management Team level, with good levels of situational/cultural sensitivity and political/wider organisational/sector awareness.
  • Excellent relationship and collaboration skills, able to build positive working relationships and secure engagement, from frontline to Executive level.
  • Ability to demonstrate empathy with colleagues working in frontline care & support roles and the humanitarian ethos of this type of work
  • Experience of working with trade unions and negotiating changes to employment terms/policies.
  • Ability to deliver organisational development initiatives across the business as an integrated solution, considering effects on engagement, perceptions and culture.
