Assistant Director of People and HR
Are you a skilled HR professional with a passion for using your knowledge and experiences to deliver a people centred, high performing organisation? Do you share our belief that increasing the diversity of our staff will greatly boost the Council’s ability to deliver services that are better able to respond to the lived experience of our residents? Can you translate your personal experience to understand the everyday working lives of our people?
In this new role we are looking for a strong operationally focused strategic thinking candidate who can lead and transform our HR services to deliver our new People Strategy, enable great leadership across the organisation and deliver new HR systems and processes to support our strategic vision We want to explore with candidates how you would develop a small but effective strategic HR service supporting managers to identify and develop our people’s potential, putting performance at the heart of what we do and supporting teams to work in a truly flexible way
Your lived and professional experiences are very important to us, and whilst we don’t necessarily need local government experience, it would be helpful if you have developed HR services in a large complex, comparable organisation.
We want to hear how you would support leadership and development of your team to achieve its highest potential, help embed our belief that public service can be performed by anyone anywhere, and ensure that our staff are at the heart of public service in our community.
You will join the Corporate Development team who support the council in the development and delivery of our corporate strategy, drive strategic change, and communicate and engage with our residents and staff.
We are determined to close the gap for groups of staff underrepresented at a more senior level and tackle the deficits in recruitment and promotion that have been identified for women and Black and Minority Ethnic staff.
We are keen to hear from all applicants who fit the criteria. Because we are clear that a combination of difference in our teams produces the best team performance, we are particularly keen to make sure that the applicants include people from ethnic minorities, people who live openly as LGBTQI+, or with a disability. We recognise that what people bring through their personal experiences, background and identity significantly enhances the Council’s ability to deliver to our staff and residents.
