Two senior business leaders with demonstrable finance and/or HR skills are required at the newly-formed Pope Francis MAT - board meetings are held in Liverpool.

The Academy Ambassadors programme brings the expertise of the business world onto boards at multi-academy trusts (MATs) throughout the country to raise standards of education and improve the life chances of young people, which is critical to our social and economic success.

The opportunity

Pope Francis Multi Academy Trust has been established by the Catholic Archdiocese of Liverpool, initially to support two schools which have experienced some significant challenges. The creation of this trust has the full support of the Department for Education with a clear intention of transforming the educational experience in their schools and they are working with partners with proven track records with a view to making rapid impact. At this stage the trust is keen to add trustees/non-executives with skills in finance and HR/risk. The trust is clear that applicants of all faiths (or of none) are welcomed.

The board seeks two senior business leaders with board level experience in

* finance at CFO level (with accountancy qualifications) or
* human resources and/or
* change management and/or
* risk

As a key member of the board you will support the trust in achieving the following over the next 12 - 24 months:


Establish sound educational and business practices across the two schools to drive improved outcomes for the students;

Ensure effective joint working across the schools in conjunction with the school improvement partner;

Establish a strong and effective governance model across the trust with appropriate delegations to individual schools to allow them to grow capacity.

What's involved?

Board governance in education is a strategic, 'eyes on, hands off' commitment which typically involves attending c. six board meetings per year/6-8 hours' time per month.

You will be responsible for:

* Ensuring clarity of vision, ethos and strategic direction
* Holding executive leaders to account for the educational performance of the organisation and its pupils, and the effective and efficient performance management of staff; and
* Overseeing the financial performance of the organisation and making sure its money is well spent

As an Academy Ambassador, you will join our ambassador network which provides resources, guidance, networking events and webinars to support you in your role.
