The Academy Ambassadors programme brings the expertise of the business world onto boards at single-academy and multi-academy trusts (SATs and MATs) throughout the country to raise standards of education and improve the life chances of young people, which is critical to our social and economic success.

The opportunity

Learning Academies Trust is a primary focused education provider which is ambitious in seeking opportunities to share its excellent education track record to raise standards and outcomes for children in and around Plymouth, particularly those in areas of deprivation. The trust opened with three primary schools and has grown to oversee eight primary schools with a total cohort of 2,600 students. The trust operates with a budget of £15 million and currently employs 500 members of staff across its schools. Board meetings will be held virtually or when safe to do so at Salisbury Road Primary School, Pl4 8QZ.

The board seeks two business leaders with board-level experience in:

* IT / Digital Transformation / Project Management OR
* Human Resources OR
* Legal

As a key member of the board you will support the trust in achieving the following over the next 12 - 24 months:

1 Education - in the short-term, the focus is on post Covid-19 pupil recovery planning to help them catch up. Over time, the trust aims to develop Good and Outstanding schools and ensure the sustained improvement of schools. Six out of eight schools are now overdue an inspection.
2 Wellbeing - the trust board is keen to ensure that wellbeing for pupils and staff remains a priority area of focus to support effective teaching and learning.
3 Learning environment - improving the IT infrastructure and school estate to address operational challenges arising from old buildings and some falling rolls impacting on budgets. Covid and trust growth have both required innovative new ways of working to be introduced. Moving forwards, the trust is looking to create greater alignment and efficiencies across the trust.
