Assistant Director, People and Organisational Development

Manchester

Salary in the region of £75k (commensurate with experience), plus a comprehensive benefits package.

Manchester Metropolitan is an ambitious University and an inspiring place to work. It’s an organisation built around a shared ambition to empower and enrich our students, our colleagues and our wider community. With a refreshed academic strategy, a strong financial platform, an award-winning estate, and ambitious investment plans, few universities could be better placed to succeed.

The Human Resources & Organisational Development Directorate has recently embarked on a significant transformational change programme directed towards improved service delivery, a focus on customer experience, more effective intra-directorate communication and providing leadership and support for the implementation of the University’s People Strategy.   We are now seeking an experienced organisational development professional to play a key role in overseeing the implementation of the transformation programme alongside other colleagues in the Directorate Senior Leadership Team.

As Assistant Director for People and OD you will provide high level expert advice to senior colleagues whilst also leading the specialist teams for People Development, Employee Engagement, Management Information, Equality and Diversity and the University Teaching Academy. You will oversee the successful delivery of discrete projects and workstreams focussed around organisational performance, capability and culture as well as leading and co-ordinating the University’s wellbeing offer.

To apply you must have significant experience of leading and operating at scale in a complex, multi-cultural and unionised environment.  As a Member of the CIPD, you will have line management experience in a human resources context, have developed approaches to talent management and professional career development, and be able to demonstrate successful experience of implementing positive change.  Of vital importance will be your ability to establish personal credibility, be a positive role model, and develop excellent and productive working relationships with all colleagues across the University and other key stakeholders.  Key to your success will be your cultural sensitivity, high emotional intelligence and calmness of approach to balance competing demands.

The closing date for applications is 5pm, Friday, 20 August

Final Interviews will be held Monday, 4 October

Manchester Metropolitan University is committed to supporting the rights, responsibilities, dignity, health and wellbeing of staff and students through our commitment to equality, diversity and inclusion. We promote applications from all sections of the community, irrespective of background, belief or identity, recognising the benefits that a diverse organisation can bring. We particularly encourage applications from Black, Asian and Minority Ethnic candidates, who we recognise are underrepresented in this area.

We recognise the benefits and importance of an environment that supports flexible working and are open to conversations about this throughout the application process.
