Job Details

Be at the heart of our culture

and the forefront of change.

The challenge

Often in the public eye, the Office for Nuclear Regulation (ONR) is an evolving public corporation. Essentially, we’re responsible for shaping and delivering the regulation of nuclear safety and security across the UK. With a task this important, we need a culture where people feel included and free to give their best. It’s key to our People Strategy – and you’ll be the architect in this senior and highly visible OD role.

The role

We’re making an ONR an even better place to work by transforming our culture – and Organisational Development is leading the way. That means you’ll be in the spotlight, dealing with colleagues ONR-wide including our Senior Leadership Team. Tackling a range of change projects designed to drive engagement, improvement and performance, you’ll make a positive impact on a unique national regulator.

We’ll be looking to you to develop OD interventions, tools and frameworks, and design OD processes including coaching. At the same time, you’ll advise the wider HR Directorate and collaborate widely to bring our team on the improvement journey. Clear communication is therefore essential, along with the willingness to listen and learn. You’ll grasp our situation quickly, adapt your thinking and put your skills to work.

The person

At this level, you’ll need the credibility and confidence to work autonomously, dealing with high-level colleagues. Proven OD expertise is vital, along with a CIPD qualification (or equivalent). If you’ve worked on Organisational Design or Diversity & Inclusion, so much the better. However, what’s really important is flexibility, motivation and strong people skills. If you’ve got the talents we’re looking for, you’ll find there’s every opportunity to broaden your experience and knowledge, including OD Design and coaching skills. By investing in your future, we’re investing in ONR’s.

The rewards

We offer competitive salaries at the ONR, with this role attracting a salary of £39,392 – £47,632. Furthermore, you’ll be eligible for a substantial Civil Service Pension scheme (including ill-health retirement and lump sum family benefits). Plus, you’ll receive a generous holiday entitlement.

About us

ONR is a Public Corporation with a Mission to provide efficient and effective regulation of the nuclear industry, holding it to account on behalf of the public. Our staff are drawn from a wide range of professional backgrounds with specialist inspectors to deliver our core business including civil engineering, radiological protection, human factors, chemical engineering, mechanical engineering and nuclear physics. And together they’re involved in everything from assessing safety cases, inspecting nuclear sites, communicating our decisions, training new recruits and representing the UK and ONR within the wider international nuclear community.

Company

We are the UK’s independent nuclear regulator, with the legal authority to regulate nuclear safety, civil nuclear security and safeguards, and conventional health and safety at the 35 licensed nuclear sites in Great Britain (GB). This includes the existing fleet of operating reactors, fuel cycle facilities, waste management and decommissioning sites, as well as other licensed and, in part, authorised defence sites, together with the regulation of the design and construction of new nuclear facilities. We also regulate the transport of civil nuclear and radioactive materials by road, rail and inland waterways.
