Formed in 2015, the BCH Human Resources service provides a critical and pivotal role in organisation support and development to the three police forces of Bedfordshire Police, Cambridgeshire Constabulary and Hertfordshire Constabulary.   With a total workforce of 10,000 police officers and staff, and covering a combined geographical area of 2,300 square miles and serving over 2.7 million residents, the three forces comprise a mix of local policing services and shared collaborated functions.

Based at multiple sites, with an HR budget of approx. £17million, the BCH HR team provide the full range of HR, OD and Operational Learning services and the department continues to evolve in response to the changing nature of policing, growing demand and increasing complexity. 

An opportunity has arisen for a new Assistant Director – HR who will lead a wide portfolio of services and service delivery. Focussing on continual improvement, you will make critical changes happen to shape HR to keep pace with ever-changing skills, demands and operational priorities. Reporting directly to the Director of HR and working with another Assistant Director, you will bring strong HR leadership experience and be a key member of the HR Senior Leadership team.

As part of the ongoing HR transformation programme, you will have a great opportunity to build on BCH HR success to date, further developing best practice and bring innovation, new ideas and a fresh focus.

You will have demonstrable experience in embedding new ways of working, leading organisational development and culture change and improving service performance to meet strategic and operational people challenges. You will be a highly skilled influencer, communicator and stakeholder manager, used to working in complex or matrixed organisations.
