Permanent, Full time – 36 hours per week.

This is an exciting opportunity to join the Schools and Commercial HR Team located within HR and OD Service at the London Borough of Hounslow, at a time of development and expansion.

About the Team

The Schools and Commercial HR Team offer a first class, modern and inventive HR advisory service to the boroughs schools as well as to the commercial and voluntary sector.

The team is part of the People Business Partnering team and collaborates across the wider organisation to deliver strategic and operational projects that explicitly benefit Hounslow residents.

Key Responsibilities

  • Under the direction of the Schools and Commercial HR Manager you will provide a HR service to schools and other customers within the agreed service level agreement.
  • You will contribute to the delivery of a first class, modern and inventive people business partnering service within the brough’s schools and the commercial sector, by developing a deep understanding of these business area
  • You will provide a first line triage service to schools requiring advice on less complex matters and ensure that more complex enquiries are referred to the People Business Partner or the Schools and Commercial HR Manager as required.
  • You will build strong relationships with Headteachers, Senior Leaders and other stakeholders to understand their needs and influence suitable people strategies and solutions.

Your Skills

  • You will have sound knowledge of employment people processes and procedures and the terms and conditions of those working within education.
  • You will have excellent communication skills and be able to engage effectively with a broad range of people.
  • You have a proactive, flexible and responsive approach and always seek to provide high levels of customer service.
  • You will have the ability to undertake project based research to support the objectives of the team

Essential for the Role

  • You must be CIPD qualified or have demonstrable work experience that evidences an equivalent level of attainment and competence.
  • Knowledge and understanding of the terms and conditions applicable to teachers and school based staff
  • Excellent communication skills, including the ability to provide detailed advice and guidance both verbally and in writing
  • An ability to support colleagues in the wider HR Team to achieve business goals and objectives

  • An Enhanced DBS Check will be required for the role
  • A clean full driving licence
  • This post is considered by the authority to be a customer-facing position; as such it falls within scope of the Code of Practice on English language requirement for public sector workers. The council therefore has a statutory duty under Part 7 of the Immigration Act 2016 to ensure that post holders have a command of spoken English sufficient for the effective performance of the job requirements. The appropriate standards are set out in the employee specification.
