Personnel Services Manager
Starting salary c.£46k
Based at King’s Court Council Offices, King’s Lynn
We are an ambitious Council with a commitment to improving our area through delivering a range of exciting projects as well as excellent levels of service to our residents. As a Service Manager reporting to our Assistant Director Central Services your role will be to ensure that the Personnel team provides a high quality, customer focused and professional service to all managers and employees working across the Borough.
Your professional knowledge, experience and enthusiasm will equip you to provide high level guidance and support to team members, who deliver the whole range of Personnel services to both the Council and its wholly owned leisure company, and to handle a personal caseload of complex and diverse employment and employee relations work. You will advise Senior Management and Elected Members on strategic Personnel issues and should have experience of working with senior managers to undertake structural reviews. You will also work with our Communications Manager to ensure that there are effective channels for employee communication and engagement at all levels. To be successful in this role you will need to have excellent communication skills as well as the tenacity and drive to balance competing demands and resolve challenging issues.
You should be a fully qualified member of the Chartered Institute of Personnel and Development (or equivalent) with a minimum of five years’ generalist personnel experience, ideally within the public sector or an organisation delivering a diverse range of services. You must have up-to-date knowledge of employment legislation and best practice, the ability to work constructively with managers across the Council, a working knowledge of the payroll function and experience of working effectively with trade unions.
If this sounds like you we would love to hear from you! If your current salary is already close to the amount advertised we have some flexibility for an exceptional candidate who closes matches our requirements. Whilst the role is full time we are open to considering more flexible working patterns. We also offer a flexible working hours scheme, performance related pay, and additional time off between Christmas and New Year. For those wishing to relocate to our beautiful borough we also offer a relocation package of up to £8k.
