Assistant Director of Organisational Development and Engagement

Job Details

Public Health Wales is headquartered in Cardiff and is the National Public Health Institute in Wales. Our purpose is Working to achieve a healthier future for Wales.

It continues to be a challenging and exciting time for public health in Wales with an innovative and progressive policy and legislative context that firmly places health, well-being and sustainability at the forefront of public services together with the challenges of the key role we play in the response to the Coronavirus pandemic.

We have been central to the national response to the Coronavirus pandemic, with the wholescale mobilisation of our workforce into our health protection response. Significant investment has seen our organisation expand by over 250 people during 2021 with further growth planned for 2022.

In 2020 we launched our ambitious long-term People Strategy, Our workforce to achieve a healthier future for Wales. This along with the need to drive forward future ways of working as we progress through and beyond the pandemic and support the planned programme of organisational change, has led to investment in a new structure and roles within the People and Organisational Development directorate.

To achieve our ambitions, our recently appointed Director of People and Organisational Development has recognised the need to develop the strategic thinking and influence of the function, place business partnering at the heart of the organisation and to invest in policy and process improvement. As a result, we now have an exciting opportunity for an experienced and inspirational Assistant Director of Organisational Development and Engagement to join us at this exciting time.

Reporting to the Director of People and Organisational Development and a member of the Directorate Senior Management Team, you will be supported by an experienced professional team to deliver our ambitious long-term People Strategy with particular responsibility for themes of Culture and Leadership, Employee Experience and Skills for the Future. You will provide expert advice and guidance to the Executive Team and other Senior Managers on developing the organisation’s leadership, culture and desired employee environment, to be an employer of choice.

You will be responsible for the development of innovative medium and long-term strategies promoting leadership, inclusion, learning and development, promoting health and wellbeing and ensuring staff are engaged. You will lead the equality, diversity inclusion and Welsh Language agenda, ensuring that strategies and policies implemented across the organisation are underpinned by robust frameworks and metrics to aid mainstreaming.

In joining us, we offer the opportunity to play a significant leadership role as part of an organisation with outstandingly talented and committed people. If you are motivated to join us at this critical and exciting time, we would very much look forward to hearing from you.

Company

Public Health Wales is one of the 11 organisations which makes up NHS Wales. We are the national public health agency in Wales.

We work to protect and improve health and well-being and reduce health inequalities for the people of Wales.

Openness and honesty should be at the heart of every relationship between those providing treatment and care and those experiencing it.

In the NHS, we strive to provide high quality, safe and compassionate care to all of our service users. However, even when we do our best, people may sometimes experience harm. That’s why we have the Duty of Candour.

Our goal is to create a culture of trust and openness, so that you can feel confident in the care you receive from us.
