Derbyshire County Council are seeking our new Head of HR Operations. The role is a fantastic opportunity for an experienced, strategically minded HR professional to join a team that are dedicated to delivering Strategic and Operational excellence across the whole of the Council.

The role will see you leading the HR Business Partner network, embedding the HR Advice and Support provision to the council and further enabling the HR Advisory Service to Schools. You will work with your counterpart Heads of Functions within HR to achieve excellence in customer satisfaction and transformational change.

You’ll also be with working closely with Trade Unions at a regional and local level and will be leading engagement, consultation and negotiation of policy change and key initiatives. It’s critical that you have experience in facilitating the development of Trade Union relationships and have driven conflict resolution processes on multiple occasions.

Key aspects of the role also include:

  • Driving the delivery of HR expertise across all across Council departments
  • Building strong relationships with stakeholders and Trade Unions across the Council
  • Developing the customer facing HR networks to overcome strategic and operational challenges
  • Role modelling Equality and Diversity to drive a positive and inclusive employee environment
  • Ensuring the Council departmental people plans are developed and delivered in time and within budget
  • Contributing to the development of and adherence to HR metrics
  • Building an effective case management system to improve advice and support to the Council
  • Ownership and development of applicable employment policy to support the Council’s vision, values and strategic objectives

What skills/experience will you need?

  • Excellent interpersonal and presentation skills
  • Substantial knowledge of employment legislative frameworks and policy
  • Significant experience of senior management within a large, complex organisation
  • Significant experience of leading complex transformational change
  • Evidence of balancing strategic and operational HR to meet customer needs
  • Budget management across extensive and diverse teams
  • Extensive experience of working with Trade Unions.
  • CIPD Level 7 qualification or substantial relevant experience
