Strategic Director: People and Transformation

Employer
Dacorum Borough Council
Location
Hemel Hempstead, Hertfordshire
Salary
Up to £100k
Closing date
7 Feb 2022

Just a 25-minute train journey from the centre of London, Dacorum occupies an enviable location just outside of the M25 and is home to the towns of Hemel Hempstead, Berkhamsted and Tring. Dacorum is an active and green place which is a centre of business, enterprise and ambition.

This is a fantastic time to join Dacorum Borough Council. We’re assembling a new leadership team, so you’ll join us at a key time where you can really make a difference. We’re looking for talented and committed individuals, who offer proven expertise and capabilities in their own professional area, but who can also offer the wider strategic perspective and leadership skills to shape a progressive, collaborative and effective organisational culture.

In a period of considerable change for the council, this role will be right at the centre of transformation.

You’ll take the lead on the council’s people agenda - promoting and embedding the cultural and organisational changes will support our ambitions for the future. You’ll help to align our people and performance strategies to the corporate plan, ensuring people understand how they their contribution matters and are clear on expectations.

Key elements of the role’s portfolio include:

  • Workforce, people, HR and OD
  • Communications and engagement
  • ICT
  • Transformation
  • Performance, policy and project management
  • Corporate governance and support

There will be a strong emphasis on how we adapt our working practices to make the most of new ways of working and ensuring that better use of technology and digital tools enhances organisational capacity. You’ll work to enhance organisational expertise in performance and programme management, and a growing emphasis on commercial skills will require our workforce to develop new competencies and adapt to different measures of performance.

Your professional background could be in a number of settings, but it’s essential that you can demonstrate a track record of leading change in a multi-disciplinary organisation, and that you can work with performance data to steer and prioritise your approach. You’ll need to show that you understand the need for effective communications with different stakeholders, and the mechanisms to deliver this. It’s also important that you can demonstrate a sound appreciation of corporate governance in a local authority context.
