Expected start date: June 2022

Are you an ambitious, experienced and qualified HR professional looking to lead a small team of happy, friendly and highly motivated staff wishing to provide a high quality HR service to the Royal Russell community?

After a hugely successful eight year tenure our current HR Manager will be retiring in June this year, and as such we are looking for a successor. This is a pivotal role, at the heart of the Royal Russell community, where you will work with 370 colleagues through the School, reporting to the Director of Operations/Finance with responsibility for providing operational and strategic support across the whole of the School on all HR and people matters, including supporting both Headmasters, the teaching and operational managers to develop and deliver effective people management practises. Your remit will also include drafting and reviewing all HR policies and processes to ensure that they effectively underpin the School’s strategic objectives, our strategic inclusion plan. You will lead our existing HR Team, of an HR Advisor and a Payroll and HR Advisor, who provide a high-quality HR service to Royal Russell School.

As a proven leader, you will have the gravitas to represent the school internally and externally, with confidence to lead your team autonomously. We welcome candidates from a broad HR background who are CIPD qualified, with significant post-qualification and leadership experience, who are used to providing advice to managers at all levels and who are equally happy to get involved with the individual people issues.

You should have excellent people skills and high professional standards together with a lively, friendly personality, strong empathy with young people, excellent communication skills and be happy to work independently, or with part of the wider School Leadership Team. You will be comfortable using an HR database, (which is provided by CIPHR) to provide relevant management information and reports, able to manipulate staffing data in excel to work with the Finance team in the annual staff budget-setting process and have strong attention to detail to ensure that accurate changes are made to the monthly payroll in time for each pay run. You will understand the need for appropriate compliance checks for new staff appointments so that the Single Central Register remains accurate and up-to-date at all times.

Royal Russell School educates over 1000 girls and boys between the ages of 3 and 18 and is situated on a 110 acre campus only 30 minutes from Central London. We have over 180 boarding students in the Senior School and are proud of our day and boarding facilities that rank amongst the best in the South of England. Our pupils, parents and staff experience a warm and friendly environment with strong pastoral care for every pupil alongside a comprehensive co-curricular and enrichment programme. In March 2016 the Independent Schools Inspectorate (ISI) judged the School as ‘excellent’ in all areas and in October 2018 we successfully passed a full ISI compliance inspection.

Royal Russell offers excellent benefits including a competitive salary on our own salary scale. As part of the vibrant community of the historic Royal Russell School, you will join a friendly and dedicated team, with easy access to transport links (Coombe Lane tram stop served by the New Addington tram is opposite the School entrance). In addition we offer:

  • 30 days (6 weeks) paid holiday plus 8 public holidays,

  • immediate non-contributory pension with employer contributions and Life Insurance,
