£9,552 (Chair of the Board) & £3,582 (Board Member)
Sussex

Established in 1972 and celebrating our 50th anniversary, Southdown is the largest Sussex based not-for-profit specialist provider of care, support and housing services. We believe that everyone has the right to live their lives well,  putting this into practice through the delivery of exceptional community support services to over 6,000 people each year, acting as landlord to 539 tenants and employing 850 fantastic colleagues.

All our clients have additional support needs, primarily mental health, homelessness and learning disabilities, with us adopting psychologically informed and strength based approaches to enable everyone to achieve their individual aspirations to live life well.

Our Board plays a vital strategic and governance role – working with Southdown’s senior team to set the direction of the organisation and ensuring that informed and engaged governance provides assurance on organisational performance. It works closely with our leadership team to support them in what they do, and ensure accountability. As three of our Board members are due to retire in September we now have opportunities for experienced and capable individuals to join us, with one of these roles being Chair of the Board.

Our Board is made up of people for different professional and personal backgrounds, and this diversity of experience and perspective is incredibly valuable in informing and challenging how we work, so we are keen to build on this.

It’s likely that our new Chair will already have experience at board level, and that they will have a sound appreciation of how to ensure that the Board operates effectively and that meetings are well-managed and productive. For the Board Member roles we would like one to offer professional expertise in HR / Organisational Development and the other to be experienced in housing management and / or tenant engagement.

Whatever your background, it’s essential that you are passionate about the work that we do. This is a unique opportunity to commit your professional skills to support better outcomes for our residents and enable vulnerable people to lead fuller lives. It’s incredibly rewarding and important work.
